Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Remember Those Old TV Announcers?

Posted 02-27-2017 at 08:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Taking you around and around with more Scattershooting on your friendly neighborhood blog, I humbly welcome you back to the outpost known as Case's Column. Gather around the computer campfire, everybody. I'm fresh out of marshmallows, but maybe we can do burgers.

********

Every now and then, Ol' Case likes to take people on a trip down Memory Lane. Do you remember those old voiceover specialists on television back when we were growing up? I mean,...

Perhaps A Certain Number Won't Be Completely Tainted After All

Posted 02-27-2017 at 09:34 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My favorite number for many years has been and still is 4. Even multiplied by 11, which is 44, the number holds a special place in my life for reasons I cannot explain.

When I first registered on this great website, where it's still great to be alive, by the way, the number 44 was the inspiration for my username, and also, because I felt compelled to answer a question and/or participate in a thread which talked about Interstate 44. So I wanted to chime in...

Mardi Gras: Better Late Than Never

Posted 02-26-2017 at 07:51 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Chances are really good that this writer will not attend Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans and Galveston. After all, I've got to show up for work, you know.

The Cajun tradition just keeps on going. Usually, this big celebration would take place in early February, but this time around, it's going to be late in the month. This coming Tuesday happens to be the day. Funny how I've actually got the beads from a previous Mardi Gras experience at one of the local...

Idle Thought About The Classrooms And Beyond

Posted 02-22-2017 at 06:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'm sure when you walk into a museum, and particularly those which deal with things such as history, do you really stop and think about what these might be like in about twenty years?

Oh, they'll still be in business, perhaps, but I'm referring to the tour guides. In a lot of museums, certainly the larger ones, you find tour guides who have a wealth of knowledge of the subject matter of whichever museum you happen to be touring. And it's especially true in history...

You Can See That Baseball Is In The Air

Posted 02-18-2017 at 09:14 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If you are in Florida and Arizona, then you can sense the anticipation at these fields of green. Baseball, once again, is in the air and in the offing. Pitchers and catchers are gathering in earnest, with the other team members trickling in shortly thereafter.

Yes, it, indeed, is around the corner when the first pitches will be thrown to hitters. Fans everywhere can brag that, on Opening Day, their team is tied for first place. Anticipation for an exciting...
