Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

This Writer Just Needs To Be Prepared For Colder Weather

Posted 11-18-2016 at 04:31 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's that time of year again, and we're not even to Thanksgiving yet. And this post isn't even about the holiday.

It's just that I've got to make a big switch in the closet, setting particular clothes aside and doing my twice-a-year reprioritizing. See you later to the short-sleeved shirts and hello to the long-sleeved. Just have to switch things around for easier access. And I have to remember to take a jacket with me to work tomorrow. Drastic changes in temperatures...

Lubbock's Needed New Roads: Loop 88 And Two Upgrades

Things are looking up in the Lubbock area. Infrastructure will be coming in the places that badly need it.

One significant development is now certain, but I can think of two east-west side streets that need to stay ahead of the curve. The one certain item is one that's gotten a lot of talk lately. Lubbock will be building their Outer Route (I'd much rather call it The Belt) in the coming years. Steve Warren, head of TXDOT's Lubbock district, has helped come...

Will We Have An Actual Winter In Texas?

Posted 11-12-2016 at 07:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I just looked at a bit from the National Weather Service and my forecast at the end of next week is calling for a pretty strong cold front. It's expected to hit the area by next weekend, and we just might see temperatures falling into the 30s for lows.

After looking at that, I got to thinking: Last winter, my area saw temperatures go below 30 just one time. One. All last winter. No ice, no nothing. Didn't kill any bugs. Mother Nature was kind to us and...

Scattershooting / America Takes The Victory Lap

Posted 11-09-2016 at 09:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Time for some more Scattershooting, right smack dab in the middle of Case's Column, which, itself, is exclusively (as it were) on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. So, get those marshmallows a-toasting. There's a cold front moving through.

********

America won last night's presidential election. See, I knew there'd still be something left in the ol' gas tank, and Americans, too fed up with politicians, scandals, and truth decay,...

And In Case You're Wondering, How's Lake Travis Doing?

Posted 11-07-2016 at 05:49 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I was in that area briefly a few weeks ago, but didn't think to get off of RM Road 620 and stop at a vista point just to look at Texas' most scenic lake. Too bad I haven't written about it lately and didn't think much of it when I wrote my two Central Texas posts not too long ago. I love Lake Travis, but I don't love it enough.

My curiosity decided to go a little overboard (no pun intended), and, so, I decided to look at Austin's Spectrum (formerly TimeWarner)...
