Memories

Ive always wondered why some people say that in their memories everything is black and white. I remember things very vividly and in color. Like how green the water hose was that ran in my grandads garden that grew between our houses. The colors of the honeysuckles that grew in the fence behind the house, and especially the smells. Like rain on a dirt road after a long hot spell, freshcut grass. I realized the other day that somewhere along the way I had gotten too busy, looking months into the future, and at coming jobs, and instead of living in the moment, I had forgotten to stop and live for right now. Last night as I sit on the edge of the trampoline and watched my seven year old daughter tumbling and and giggling and jumping, I again smelled the grass, and heard the birds and truly felt a sense of peace. No stress, no worries, just the hum of a distant lawnmower and the wonderful sound of my daughter saying "watch me go higher daddy, watch me go higher." If only life had a pause button.

If only life had a pause button... I love that.
I remember in color too. I could smell those smells you were describing. (Good writing.)
I often have to remind myself too, to dig in and enjoy the moment. For too many of us happiness is the next upcoming thing in our plan book. But we need to grab it in the here and now. Great post.Posted 06-20-2008 at 04:32 PM by emeraldsky -
Certain smells, the way the sun cuts through the fog and the sound of children at play often make me remember too..I dream in color, Arguy

I remember in color, and dream in color too. I have had a sense of smell within a dreams. While we can't pause life.... "memories" are but a few second behind, those you can pause & replay whenever.

I remember in color too........
Sitting high on a mountain watching the trains come into the Denville Station. I'd like to find that spot again, and sit above........and still watch the trains roll in.
I remember picking buckets of blackberries...deep in the woods that became a high school football field.
I remember swimming, and that soft, clear water...and the rocks we gingerly hopped on as we walked the stream. Lots of colorful memories...........Posted 07-08-2008 at 01:59 PM by Summering
