I am thinking of my father....The Rev. Albert Quillen Perry. He was cut from a different cloth...…a man who truly lived his life based on principles and personal values. He was wise, tenacious, and inspirational. He could be raucous...he loved story telling and singing around the campfire ("Oh Mary Don't You Weep") He could also rock favorite hymns from the pulpit...."Forward Through The Ages"
.
He was the family historian, a naturalist, a fisherman, a philosopher, a preacher and a man I looked up to and admired. He ran for Congress; He marched in Alabama and in Mississippi. He could be confrontational.....he could be prophetic and he could be poetic.
He was old fashion--did his gardening in his white shirt and tie, served the family meals (we passed our plates up to him and waited till everyone was served before beginning a meal, and we asked "May I be excused?" before leaving the table. It didn't matter how humble and at times meager the fare was.
He taught me so much and always challenged me to try my best.
Dad, I miss you and love you. ....
