Is the appearance of certain types of spam at City-Data a coincidence?

Anyone who frequents these forums has to have noticed the spamming on behalf of Amazon (and probably some others) that has popped up recently. If this is paid for by Amazon my opinion of them has gone down the toilet.

Do you think the fact that school started and the spam started are related?

Is it a way for a college student to make some extra money?

We've always gotten a wide variety of would-be spammers in the Freebie forum. Seemed like a nice place they thought they could hide in. Thanks to quick reporting, and Beretta, the posts are gone just about as fast as they popped up. I haven't notice more in frequency since school has started. I think it is a year round internet problem.
