It has to be the page that your post is on in the thread, since there's no way to know if someone read your particular post. Yet!
Fuzzy, I had a hunch that maybe the spikes are caused when someone clicks on someone's profile and selects "show all posts by this poster" and that the system might add that to our hit rates. In your case, you've got thousands of posts, and I hit your profile to "find all posts" so we'll see if tomorrow you get a huge spike in hits. Just a long-shot hunch.
Well ain't that somthing. I just looked and mine jumped big that one day also. Maybe most of the country was stuck in the house that night due to another snow storm and they all found this forum while surfing.
At first I thought the spike that I noticed was on Friday, so figured it was the day of the week, but now I'm bettin that CD may have been referenced in the media again, so maybe that is the cause of the spike.

That person would have to individually click on all your posts after doing doing the search for these views to count, so that's not the reason.
There are some browser pre-fetching plug-ins, which actually load the full pages and could skew the numbers. However, we haven't looked closely into what happened yet, so it could be other things.

I think this means that some person, company or government agency could first hit the "show all posts of this user" and then download the totality of anyone's posting history, in my case thousands of posts. Then they could sort it by topic or keyword and perhaps publish the compiled / edited body of information for any given topic, or keep me under surveillance for calling Bush a schmoo (my apologies to good schmoo's everywhere). Perhaps a competing website, like Sperling's or a travel site.

Hey Fuzzy, I did the "show all posts" for you on Sunday and today when I checked your stats, it shows a huge spike in the number of 'reads' on your account. Hmmmmm.....
