Moving To Alabama
Hi all. I needed some information about the city, Mobile, Alabama.
Two friends & I (all in our early twenties) might be moving out there, because of job offers. I've been reading some threads and seeing some negative comments. but I really would appreciate good apartment complexes (gated areas) and neighborhoods that are nice to live in. It'll only be temporary; up to a year. I'm moving from Connecticut, and grew in a bad area myself, I'm sure nothing can compare to what I dealt with there, ha.
Anywho, just to narrow things down a bit, I found a place that seems good:
Regency Gates Apartments, located at 5700 Grelot Road.
Any advice is appreciated! thank you in advance.

I do hope someone who lives now there can help you.
Schools and traffic are some of the biggest issues in Mobile. There is crime but it is usually isolated in certain areas from what I have heard.

Mobile is is a great place to live Crime is only in certain areas , Grelot Road is on the western edge of the city . That area is in the upper middle and high income area so you chose a good area to live . Mobile county school system which is the largest in the state and one of the largest in the country is improving . The crime that is mostly mentioned by other forumers , are forumers who are from Baldwin county and not Mobile County . You will love the warm weather and the beutyful 300 year old city. Traffic is a huge problem in Mobile , one reason why Mobile `s school system lacked in the past is because the Mobile County school system is 60% African American and the school board wasn`t out to help the African American students as oppose to the White students . That has changed since Harold Dodge been in Office and he was named superintendent of the year for 2007 For improving the school system ! Even Huntsville city schools wanted to hire him to run there school system and they have one of the best school systems in the stste .
Any questions please feel free to ask !

Regency looks to be very nice of what I see driving by. It seems to be an upper class apartment complex.

Timber Ridge apartments are very nice. I lived there for two years and never had a problem. They are very strict about keeping the place tidy, no towels hanging outside or anything like that. There are two pools, an excercise room, and a rentable room for parties etc. They even provided free muffins every morning in the office. There wasn't a security gate back in 2002, but they were discussing putting one in so there may be one by now.
There is also a new gated complex at the intersection of Grelot Rd and Cody Rd., but the name slips my mind at the moment. They are very nice with garden tubs and crown moulding, but a little pricey though. Maybe someone will help me out with the name.
As already said, Regency Gates and Lenox Gates (both identical and owned by same company) are also good choices.

I looked at that guide and Arlington Park is the one I was thinking of on Grelot Rd.

Yes, that is also a nice one, I think is only about 6 years old. It is also located near all the stuff I mentioned.
Mobile is great, You will be only an hour from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, an hour to casinos and 2.5 hrs to New Orleans.
When you get het Make sure to visit the FloraBama Flora-Bama Lounge and Package Perdido Key Florida

Also check out Cimarron Ridge which is also located on Grelot Rd directly behind Lenox Gates. Cimarron Ridge is a little less expensive but also has a security gate and many amenities. The units are just a tad older (1980's?) than the others we've mentioned, but are very well maintained.
