I have mixed feelings about it. It will generate more revenue for the county and the state, thats the good side. However when I look at Atlanta and Charlotte I cringe at the overcrowding, suburban sprawl, and pollution.

They used a picture of Huntsville for Palm Coast. The Huntsville picture isn't Huntsville(I'm assuming it was swapped with Palm Coast). That picture is also a bit dated. The Summit building isn't there, so it's at least a few years old.
I just hope Bama cities do a better job of managing their growth well. Huntsville seems poised to become a traffic nightmare if something isn't done soon.

southernnaturelover - the Forever Wild legislation expires soon (2012), now's the time to call your legislators to resubmit the legislation and then make sure that a comprehensive State-wide enviromental survey is included to protect critical watersheds (look at Atlanta's water problems) and Alabama's natural heritage.
Forever Wild was one of the most popular Constitutional Amendments ever (IIRC 87-13) - almost as popular as banning gay marriage (89-11).

Me, too. I went for a short trip to market in Atlanta; every night, my face was so dirty from all the pollution in the air.
I don't think people realize how moving to suburbia actually raises our taxes in the long run for a county to upkeep all the infrastructure, like the roads.
Then the gas cost of going back and forth for up to 45 minutes each trip. Plus time lost from your family. My husband gained 70 minutes a day when we decided to move from West Mobile down to Midtown. It's made such a difference in his quality of life.

Fresh Ideas
Mobile has been getting a lot of new, sharp people lately, and they seem committed to being involved with the city and its organizations. It's pretty exciting!

I think things are good all over in Alabama right now (knock on wood, please). Birmingham continues to see a pronounced rise in income, employment, and new industry as well.
Without being partisan here, I think a lot of it has to do with Bob Riley who has really done a lot to streamline state government and make it more efficient. I voted against him in his first election bid, but I became a believer. Anybody who has a 70% approval rate among DEMOCRATIC voters must be doing something right.
