I have lived in Madison for three winters. I have yet to see the ground completely covered in snow. You shouldn't even worry about it. That doesn't mean it can't happen, it is just not the norm.

I lived in San Antonio for three years and it snowed once and it lasted one hour. Several years after I left, they had a cycle where it snowed more than once and in one year had more snow than their whole recorded history.

Snow or ice is always a concern but thankfully snow shovels are not needed.

Only in Huntsville, and it usually melts very fast.

I live near Atlanta and we get about 2" of snow a year on average. I'm assuming that areas from Birmingham and northward get the same amount of snow and north Alabama like Huntsville should get several inches more since it's near the Tennessee border. We had about 4" of snow this past winter, and in 2002 we had a 7" snowstorm, and since Alabama's weather is essentially the same as Georgia, i'm sure Alabama gets just as much snow.

Matt - in the six years we have been in Birmingham we have not had two inches of snow. I do remember setting my truck into a ditch in GA and taking the bike to work:>)
