We've been pretty well socked in for three days over here, starting the day after I said, "if it's sunny tomorrow I'm going to spend the whole day hiking up at the pass." And tomorrow I have to start work and can't go play. Boo.

I still prefer your weather to the severe storms, downpours, tornado warnings, and dealing with a large dog that is terrified of thunder for hours on end every evening last week!

Is Alaska one of those places that doesn't get thunderstorms? We don't get them here in the mountains of western NC, and I miss them. In Birmingham, AL, where I grew up, we would have house-rattling thunderstorms during the summer and fall, and I miss them so badly. The upside is that we get snow here; even though it isn't much at all, it's better than none.

This Summer Blows. Reminds me of the summer in 2007... my first summer when we moved back. I guess Alaska is just trying to make sure that I don't end up missing the summers. All winter, I would tell everyone how Alaska has the best summer of anywhere in the world. Well.... this summer is making me rethink that statement.

Living on the East Side of Anchorage is even worse. It may be sunny downtown, but once you get near those mountains you get under the dark clouds again. I swear it has been cloudy and/or raining for the last 3 weeks. Bleh.

Cannot wait to be in a place with over 300 days of sunshine per year.

Ha, I hear ya there. I fully expect to arrive and at the same time a significant hurricane will hit and oil will wash up on the beaches. Unfortunately we had already committed to this move before the disaster in the gulf took place.

I'll be checking the Hurricane Center's website on the way down and if one is headed to hit Tampa...... I'll take a little longer on the road getting down there.
