Heh, I know of a reptile keeper that has a black mamba that is puppy dog calm. Just goes to show that even with a species that is notoriously high-strung there are individual personalities.
In that year I spent in equatorial W.Africa, I quickly learned that Mamba are psychotic, they may act harmless for quite a while, but, eventually it's gonna kill someone, or many someones. They can outrun a human. You will never know what set it off. and,...even if you do figure it out, you'll be dead before you can tell someone.

Actually, anyone who studies animals realizes that most of them are just being true to their own nature. The bears didn't kill Treadwell because they were the Charlie Mansons of the bruins. They were just being bears.

animals...humans...we are so much alike!!...hahaha...now when animals of any kind take up residency in a persons living space what does a human do....may put up with it for a while....may not..but humans usually get rid of the intruder by killing it or running it off....so that's what the bears did....shame that the animals have to be put down for humans stupidity just because they are themselves....

Rule #1

While in Alaska, don't set up your campsite next to a salmon stream littered with bears fattened up for their long winters snooze.

Rule # 2

If your boyfriend asks you to go camping in Alaska next to a salmon stream tell him to kiss your rosy red cheeks.

For those of you thinking about camping in Alaska during late summer or fall, don't forget to dress properly. Temps can get down into the teens.

The best stuff to wear for that time of the year is salmon skin clothing. Not only does it help keep you warm on those chilly nights next to a stream, it also keeps you nice and dry.

Dress head to toe in salmon clothing and enjoy your stay in our great state.

Sincerely,

Yeah almost ALL wild black mambas are just extremely high strung.

The greens are typically *calmer*.
(There are 4 different types.)

The people in question that I'm familiar with are professional keepers either in zoology, research etc. type settings and I've heard many interesting stories about the various personalities different species have.

Ironically, mamba bites in a professional facility with anti-venom on hand are generally not that bad. Unlike getting bit by something like a bushmaster (lachesis muta muta) where even with immediate treatment the offending apendage is going to be hugely damaged if even retained.
