Oh, I see. Yet another fine example of the crystal clear logic of Ray. Right. Because he knows that some merchants in Canada speak English, those who refused to do so in his exalted presence were snubbing him because he is a gringo. Thanks for clearing that up, Ray. Thanks for the idea, by the way.
So Met,
Instead of giving me a hard time about my experiences in Canada, why don't you tell yours? How about your affinity to Canadians from a former Alaskan?
Even if your assumption that the particular people you talked to must speak English because many Francophones in Quebec speak English is accurate (which is dubious logic), it's a bit Ugly American to expect individual people to accommodate your language when you are in their home area.
Indeed. I think I would go with the official Statistics Canada numbers from the census that report that 65% of francophones in Quebec speak only French, as opposed to someone's impressions that people are pretending not to speak English.

But if you look at the statistics, you will realize that throughout Montreal and Quebec, merchants, and the private sector workhorse is the most multilingual.
Regardless, my experiences in Canada took place years ago about the time when canadians in Quebec wanted independence from the rest of Canada. Things are not the same these day. Besides, I was not the only one who experienced what I have talked about, but so several of my former military members. We used to travel to Canada countless times for a period of eight years (three military tours).
That aside, this thread is about "Alaskan's affinity to Canadians," and I have already mentioned more than once what regions in Canada I found the most pleasant people, the ones that as an Alaskan I had the most affinity to.
How about your affinity to Canadians as an Alaskan?
I am, but I take union "breaks" between work sessions
Now, Monday and two weeks prior I was on vacation.
Join a union and break a record for daily breaks; go on more vacations than Dubya did while president; get more and better benefits than God.
Unions are destroying America and are the epitome of socialism gone wild. If people aren't willing to work for minimum wage with zero benefits then they should pack up their gear & move to Canada where they'll be forced to learn to say eh while chewing on some fried pork fat.

How'd like them apples, Mr. Ray?
Thanks! You may be right, but I am enjoying them apples
