Although I don't necessarily like taking pictures of sunsets, this one does not look too bad. Post it here for you to enjoy on Thanksgiving day or whenever you have the time to look at it.

Thanks.

Yes, it has been pretty warm in North Pole. According to the National Weather Service, it's supposed to start cooling again within three days or so. I worry a little about the thin ground cover in my backyard, and hope that it will continue snowing before it gets to -30 degrees.

It's not really located at the North Pole, just about 10-12 miles out of Fairbanks. I believe there is a candy cane striped pole at Santa Claus House though.

Well, it's not "The North Pole," just a town named North Pole. The city of North Pole is very small, but it's surrounded by neighborhoods. The main attraction from visitors is a very large cloth statue of Santa Claus, next to a gift shop called "Santa Claus House". There are a couple of reindeer in a fenced area outside. Also, thousands of letters from around the world are written to Santa in North Pole, and during Christmas a large group of people work as a team answering the letters. The night before Christmas day, camera TV crews congregate outside near the statue of Santa. Also, thousands of people send their mail to friends and family members in North Pole to get it stamped with the North Pole stamp at the local Post Office.

Well, a friend of mine just got his PhD in environmental Chemistry, he has spent the last several years of his life either in Antartica (south pole) and yes, there really is a south pole, it has to be moved every three months or so because the ice on top of the pole flows, moves around, and it is re-positioned. Have a picture of Steve at the south pole in shorts and t-shirt grinnin' with a penguin in the photo with him. He also spent a lot of time in Greenland doing his research in the Arctic. He sent me a pic of two polar bears, said he didn't get off the ship to have a photo op with them. Steve always was kinda smart. He is now at University in Ontario on a post-doc. The way I understand it, Fairbanks has some interest in his work. He also has interest in Fairbanks, he requires a pristine environment for his studies. Sorry, digressed again, to the best of my knowledge, no, there is not a pole on the arctic, but, if they maintain one in the south, perhaps, although there is a permanent settlement in the south, internationally maintained, a neutral zone, the same can not be said for the North Pole.

Yes, the University Of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF) has a lot going in the sort of research he does. They have an international research center (IARC) that may be the most famous in the Northern Hemisphere.
