Just spent a week in Anchorage, the traffic still sucks.

You don't know what "sucks" means until you drive in LA or NYC.

You forgot Miami and DC... But I guess going from an area literally NO traffic at all it would seem horrific.

Yea, it's all relative to something.

Which news organization is better in your opinion?

I usually have to read Faux, CNN, and MSNBS for national stuff. I read the local rags to find out what is going on around me.... If its an AP article, its identical. Although the comments at the bottom of the article are different.

I like news that makes a real effort to explore both sides of a story, instead of using the story to establish a point or reinforce a conclusion / bias that was already held. In the absence of that, just give me the facts without an editorial. I miss the original format of Headline News. BBC America news in the morning is the closest thing I have found to it, but it is only on for two hours in the morning.

I also miss the original Headline News format. I did see this article about trust in news sources that's interesting:

Fox News is the most trusted national news channel. And it’s not that close. - The Washington Post

Then the other problem of no editing/review before publishing. On a blog it isn't all that important, but for a commercial news site/paper/program making sure grammar and spelling are correct would be nice. Also, that facts are not verified.

Times are different. The other problem is that I remember going home to WATCH the 5pm news - unless it was really urgent you didn't know what was going on in the world (or even your area) until the news was on. Some areas had evening news papers too. Now it is immediate, because of the internet and there is a rush to get it out and "be first!" I don't regularly watch TV, much less the news anymore, which is kind of sad.

Next we have the biased news sites. But we already know about those...

jdhpa and Myantra I agree with your comments...

Concealed Carry, firearms. Alaska/Vermont/Arizona are a model which other states need to follow

1) How bad really is the weather? I grew up in NY so I am somewhat used to cold weather and don't mind it too much but is it really as bad as everyone is always saying?

2) No offence but, is it boring to live in Anchorage? I mean what is there to do in and around the city?

3) How do the oil checks work and how much are they usually for?

4) Is the city growing or gentrfying at all?

5) Would you say the people in Alaska are more conservative or libertarian in thinking? Part of the reason I want to move is because the state was ranked number 1 in personal freedom by George Mason University.

And finally, do you think it's worth it to move there?

Thanks,
Mike
Anchorage, Alaska is part of the USA.

In all seriousness, it's pretty expensive up here as well.
Weather is what it is. I'm from the south and found out I actually prefer the Alaskan weather vs the heat and humidity of the south. -40 isn't that bad. You learn to dress for it if you have to be out. Anchorage is a neat town to me. I'd not want to live there, but if I had to, I'd make it work. Politics? Mixture. Definitely liberal leanings, but there are also birthers.
You have to be in AK for a full calendar year. The PFD varies.
Job?
