Hey guys, I was just wondering where the mildest weather in Alaska might be found. My aunt and uncle are thinking about retiring up there relatively soon and I told them I'd try to find out some information about weather and the like. They're coming from Colorado, so they're used to lots of snow, but they're also used to getting sun along with that snow. And they know, very well, that Alaska is pretty chilly and gets snow, they're not looking for San Diego weather or anything like that, they just want to know where the most mild winters can be found. As I said they're retiring so they're not looking for something with a booming economy or thriving business environment, they just want someplace pretty, quiet and calm. I'm sure they'd really love if there were at least something nearby, a small town or even if they were within a good, safe driving distance of an actual city, but they're not too picky. Any help I could get would be great for them. They are going up there again in a few weeks, but I thought finding out some information before hand might be useful. Thanks!

Southeast is the mildest, but the rain and clouds might be a bit much for a lot of people...after that, Southcentral.

Yeah...I've seen winters in southern SE where it rarely gets below freezing. But the rain and the gloom can be really oppressive. I've always preferred the winters farther north to here where you at least see the sun.

For a few hours anyway with the shorter daylight hours. What gets me is having it cloudy for a few days, and then go out and get blasted with that sun glare off the snow, kind of like needles in the eyes and readjust to the sun, but the sun is gorgeous on the snow in the winter

Yeah--in the worst of winter it gets light here around 8 AM and dark around 4. Not really all that different from the northern lower 48.

Wasilla, Palmer, Eagle River and Anchorage have the most mild weather in Alaska in my opinion. This has been a great summer so far...lately it's been high 70's, low 80's!
