ok, i have applied for jobs in Alaska and some US tropical islands. ive gone through all the required testing and now all i need to do is wait for them to tell me to move to the decided location. other than my dislike of islands, i really dont care where i go. the only real concern i have though is the cost of living. i have look around online but all i have found states that Nome and Bethel are very expensive. i have how ever seen one article that stated milk was about $4 and gas about $3.90. i need more infor and that is why i am here. i need to know if a person can live off of 33k. i live a very spartan lifestyle and i may only need to fly in my cooking supplies if that. beyond that i can get 2 bags+laptop on the plane. passably even just 1 bag.

so, can you live off of 33k?

$4 a gallon milk & $3.90 a gallon gas is the prices on the road system, where things are cheaper. I don't have the exact numbers, but Bethel is much more expensive than that.
Living in Bethel has been discussed on this forum in the past. Do a search for all the information has been shared previously.

Warpt - What are prices in Bethel for other common commodities, like Milk, Bread, Soda, Meat, Fish, Eggs, etc...

Hard to do an analysis on whether one can live on $X a month when those type of prices could be off the charts... $33k a year and the OP will bring home roughly $2500/month, maybe less.

Spartan lifestyle will help in the can I live on a little bit of money, BUT you gotta do the math and Bethel is one place that you can't easily do the math based on normal or average living costs.

To the OP, does the place you applied at provide housing? I can see your salary getting eaten up by rent and utilities.

Welp there you go... Seems like $33k/year may not be enough to even live spartan.
