Hey everyone,

I have a potential job opportunity with TCC as a village public safety officer. Yesterday I was told to research Ruby and McGrath Alaska. I googled both and found McGrath to be slightly more populated. I know both locations are rural and I know the climate, stats, etc. Im looking for more of a personal viewpoint. How are the people? Would they welcome me? Any preference if the opportunity was given to you? I have a phone interview tomorrow to discuses relocation and the job and my needs.

A little background from me... Im a 21 year old female from Upstate New York. Love the cold, love adventure, and am ready to make a big move. I applied as a VPSO to get my foot in the door and eventually move up to an Alaska State Trooper.

If there are any VPSO's out there or anyone who knows one id love their viewpoint of the job and location. I realize many people who take VPSO positions are already members of the village.

Any and All Info Welcome! Thanks!!
Sam

PM me if you want more info. I've been to both. Your best choice hands down would be McGrath.

Default Still Waiting

The holidays put a delay on my background check. I should know by the end of this week if its 100% guaranteed. Ive been talking with some people around the area of Mcgrath. I am so excited. It is going to be a life-changing experience. Everything is so different compared to upstate NY!

I have researched the academy. Its in Sitka, however its usually for troopers. I know the VPSO's get trained there for 10 weeks. (Two weeks are fire fighting). Is the physical training stuff the same? My biggest fear right now is that in NY we have not had cold temps yet at all! So I have not gotten to run outside in anything less than 30 degrees. Hopefully im in good enough shape to adapt quickly! Any info on the academy for VPSO's would be helpful!

Come spring time in March the town of McGrath grows a whole bunch due to the Iditarod Race.

Well, I can tell you that the village of Ruby lost power last week or so, as did Nicolai, Takotna and Nunam Iqua. I know, because the villages were calling for assistance and we had none to give them. I was up at the slope at the CGF for about 3 weeks and missed the excitement, except when I got back to PBOC to get cell phone messages.
