I was offered to work in Skagway, in a sort of "art" gallery (local crafts), from May to October 2010. The employer pays a return ticket and a shared room with another girl. The salary is around $13 per hour plus the possibility of additional summer-end bonus and commission plans depending upon performance.

The position is a lead salesperson.

I am wondering whether it is a decent salary for Alaska and Skagway in particular... or should I ask a pay rise before signing the contract?

A room to sleep in and a return ticket. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Well, having read all threads about Skagway's grocery shops' problems and places to shop for food and basic things, I doubt it

Hi Sputnitsa! Your nickname sounds like a something of Slav. Am I mistaken?

Fantastic! I'm Russian too. Сам я сейчас живу на Чукотке в г. Анадырь. Какими судьбами в штатах?

Yes, I have lived all over Alaska. Are you going to work and earn money or blow it eating out all the time? If they are paying for your room to sleep in that's your biggest expense. A little bit of ramen noodles, peanut butter and coffee. What else do you need?
