I have recently accepted an offer to do my postgrad studies in UAlbany, NY.
I have a hard time finding a nice place to live...Actually I haveread all the other posts about Albany and as recommended tried to dind a place near to Washington , Western Ave. and Lark St. But unfortunately all the places I have seen (which meet mu student-budget 700-800$ /m) were really horrible! Rough neighborhoods and the houses were really really old and dirty!
I dont know maybe the reason I am so picky is I am not from NY, but I had a feeling that I could find a better place near to city center for this price...
Anyhow I just read that Arbor Hills is the worst neighborhood in the Albany, but I found a very nice and neat place in Loudon Rd. next to Memorial Hospital (north of albany) in a complex called Loudon Arm Apts.
Does anybody know about this place? the neighborhood or in general how safe it is?!
I really appreciat your help as i have to decide asap.
I don't have any personal info to share on Loudon Arms Apts but I think it would be a pretty good choice if you found an apt there that you liked and is within your budget. It's not in Arbor Hill, close to it but I think there is enough of a buffer zone(i.e. Memorial Hospital) separating it.
I believe Loudon Arms is actually in the Hamlet of Loudonville(if not in it, immediatly next to it)which is what I guess could be called the "Beverly Hills" of Albany. If you drove a little farther north from the apt complex I think you would see what I mean. Around here, anyone that says they live in Loudonville is automatically assumed to be wealthy.
Try Guilderland area. On route 20 there are some apartments that are in a decent neighborhood and close to everything you need. Stores, gyms, mall, eateries. Route 20 goes right to the campus area.
