Has anybody ever swam in the Mohawk River? I was wondering how clean the water was and if the Mohawk is safe to swim in, particularly near the Rexford Bridge. Where on the Mohawk River have you swam before?

Friends and I use to jump off the bridges in Fultonville and Amsterdam. Do I recommend it, nope.

The water is pretty gross.

How deep is the Mohawk River where you jumped off in Fultonville/Amsterdam?

There are probably pollutants in the sediments and regularly get stirred up.

It was deep enough to where I didn't get hurt, but this was before my teenage growth spurt so I don't know that I'd make it unscathed if I were to jump in there today lol. A friend of mine actually fell and seriously hurt himself on a nearby bridge. I forget the name. Nothing but sharp rocks down under all those bodies of water.

I don't know much about the one in Rexford.

Default I Personally Would Not!

There is work being done in many NY counties to improve the water of the Mohawk River, but budgets can be fickle and may not be a priority for this River over time. I used to swim in it growing up, but today, I don't think I would even eat a fish I caught in it...sorry to say. : ( Rexford Bridge area is pretty this time of year, but I am still skeptical, and with kids, they often swallow water while swimming. Adults would need to be careful of that and shower as soon as they get out of the water. Too many better places to swim locally to deal with taking chances, in my opinion. : )
