From the Albany Times-Union: "A DoxoINSIGHTS report listed the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area as New York’s fourth-most expensive area for monthly household spending.
DoxoINSIGHTS is a branch of the third-party bill-paying website, Doxo, which analyzes statistics regarding how Americans pay their bills. Doxo evaluates $380 billion spent yearly on utility bills in the United States and releases its findings in an annual U.S. Utilities Market Size and Household Spending Report.
In the company’s 2021 analysis, the Albany area’s monthly household spending averaged $1,961, 3.8 percent higher than the national average.
Ahead of the region were three others. The NYC/Newark area was listed at No. 1, the Poughkeepsie/Newburgh vicinity at No. 2 and Kingston at No. 3 — all averaging over $2,100 a month in bills. Doxo's report looked at 27 New York regions in total. Others that were among the 10 most-expensive locations in the state but cheaper than the Albany area were listed as follows respectively: Ithaca, Hudson, the Watertown/Fort Drum area, Gloversville, Glen Falls and Amsterdam."
Also: "Mortgages in the Albany area were $199 higher than the national average of $1,279, but rent was $36 cheaper than national prices at roughly $1,026.
Other expenses, including utilities, health insurance, auto loans or insurance, cable and phone bills were also reported as less than the national averages.
Whereas nationally consumers paid $316 for utilities, Albany residents paid $280. Similarly, the national average cost for health insurance was $113 per month, whereas in Albany it was $56."
