I don't normally post in the NY State forums since it isn't my area of interest, but I know someone who is looking to move out of a larger home in Boston area, due to disability/advanced age, into a condo in a less expensive smaller city, where I understand the person will live with a live-in caretaker. How is the area of State St around the Washington Park nowadays? I sort of knew that area a little bit, about 35 years ago, but have not been there since then, so not sure what to tell the person (or rather person's daughter who asked me, knowing that I had a significant other from Albany long time ago). I kind of vaguely remember it as pleasantly historic and not blatantly dangerous, but then I never knew the area very well actually (I just knew well someone from there), and I assume there have been changes. Any input?

That would essentially put them in the Center Square neighborhood, which is a pretty trendy area of the city: google.com/maps/@42.6563484,-73.7650601,3a,75y,151.47h,88.5t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1sVoBis-zVkmfrF4Aapc6hMQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!9m2!1b1!2i37

Lark Street is a popular street with activity. So, hopefully someone else can chime in with more specific information about crime. It isn't in one of the city's higher crime neighborhoods though.

Thank you! I'll pass that along.

It's arguably the most walkable, young, and trendy part of Albany. It is referred to as the village in the city(a nod to Greenwich Villiage in NYC), as it has most amenities and comforts one would want. Lots of restaurants, a large park, churches, public transit, and even a sense of community. Parking is difficult, though, and crime is not zero. I lived here in a studio apartment in 2017, and do a lot of business in the area. It is one of my favorite places to work, grab a bite or drink, and show visitors. Again, parking is almost a deal breaker if they drive.

Thanks a lot. It is an old person and her caretaker. I don't think there would be driving involved. I think they already found something in that area.
