Other than going to the balloon fiesta park.

Is there anywhere in town outside the park with a great view of the balloons right after they leave the ground. Just don't want to get in the traffic and pay for the parking and entrance fee.

Mortimer had a good spot, it is East of I-40 along I think is frontage road, just north of Alameda road. Does that make sense....

For those who are visiting from out-of-town, here is a place about 1 hour away ( < 50 miles ):
I took pictures in the Manzano mountains around 4th of July Campground.

The maples are peaking, but probably only 60% there.

I was out at the Piedras Marcadas Canyon trail, part of Petroglyph National Monument yesterday morning and there were excellent views of the balloons. Maybe not as close up as some would want to be, but the vistas were great with the balloons.
