I have been roaming the forums and am trying to piece information together...so thought I would just ask for some housing ideas myself.

I am a 34 yo, single female professional looking for a safe and nice apt complex that won't subject me to a crazy commute to the VA (have cat and would love w/d in unit). I am looking to spend around $700 (maybe up to 800?). I saw the following places on apartments.com but have no real idea where to start (took job without ever being in ABQ). So any comments on these or other suggestions would be great. I am flying in tomorrow to search.

The Overlook
La Mirage
The retreat at Candelaria
The Enclave

A million times thank you!

Hi - similar questions as yours. Also might be working at the VA. I have a teenager, but will be putting him in a private school, so school districts aren't a concern, but do want a safe neighborhood. I'm 38 so I don't want a college-kids-type neighborhood, but I'm single so I don't want to be trapped in a suburban/all-family area either. Hoping if someone answers your post, perhaps it'll be relevant to me too! Although I'm hoping to stick to about $800 or less for a 2-bedroom.

I am not familiar with the retreat at Candelaria, but the other three you mentioned are nice. They are nice complexes that are close to good shopping and amenities, plus hiking, etc. I lived at La Mirage and was happy there, and have driven by the other two a million times over the years, and they both seem very nice. They are all in good locations. Not exactly close the VA, but it's an easy commute. Maybe 15-20 minutes. Good luck!

Well, it also depends on which private school.
But for a mixed age area with transportation and entertainment, I like around the Menaul /Louisiana area.
It has buses, parks, library is not that far, malls and easy access to the Interstate.
But you could be having to drive all over if your son's school is in a totally different area.

I work at the VA and live at Hunter's Ridge Apts. They are owned by the same company as La Mirage. It's older and not as fancy, but a good value for the money.
