Help! Where should I live in Albuquerque? Moving soon.
I just found out that I will be moving to Albuquerque by the middle of March. I was wondering if anyone has helpful suggestions/information on safe and clean places to stay?
To give you more insight into my situation. I am a single female and will be working off Osuna Rd NE and Jefferson St NE. I will also have a car to drive.
I am looking for something that is lower than $600 if possible. I have looked at some listings and some are out there. I am just not sure what the safest areas are. I have not been to Albuquerque yet but I like what I have read about Nob Hill. Thanks for any info/help with this!

Nob Hill is nice, but its near the center of the city. However, since you'll be in Journal Center Office Park, you could easily either ride your bike - the north diversion trail is a bike path that basically connects UNM with Journal Center - or it would be about a 10 minute drive. Not that far, but not right next to where you'll be working either.
There's alot of good choices in that general vicinity as well - check the North Valley (just down hill from Journal Center) - it's a beautiful area with old homes along the river - some areas are very expensive, some are not....
If you're looking for something more suburban, than you might look just to the east somewhere off of Paseo Del Norte. Or if you want the opposite, downtown and old town are nice (though hit or miss) and are not that far, less than a 10 minute drive, or a fairly scenic and enjoyable bike ride up the Bosque bike trail.
All of the mentioned areas are pretty safe, just take general precautions like you would anywhere.

Albuquerque notes
Just stay out of the southwest and southeast parts of town (south of Interstate 40) as those areas are filled with alot of crime with drugs and gangs. The area near Kirtland Air Force Base is called the "war zone" because of the crime problems. So please make note of this.
The Northeast Heights is nice but not cheap. And the neighborhoods near Tramway Blvd. on the eastern part of town have nice mountain views but for me are less appealing. I like the western part of town better since it offers alot of positives. And my friends moved to nearby Rio Rancho and are happy.
Your best bet is to find a REPUTABLE REALTOR who can help you even more. Let me know if you need one since my agent is VERY experienced and helpful.
Whatever you do, best wishes on getting settled in 'The Duke City'!

Please neglect this faulty advice. The SE and SW parts of town have nice areas (particularly if you use I-40 as your distinction), and the NE and NW parts of town have some crummy areas.
Live close to work; there's plenty of affordable places, and not much in the way of bad neighborhoods near there.
The NE heights has some of the cheapest housing in town, and probably makes up half the town. Your work is arguably in the NE heights.

I have friend that lives at The Oak Tree Apartments. Seems to be nice and would be fairly close to your work.

Yep. The "far NE Heights" may be more expensive, but the bulk of the Heights is cheap. I'd say my area near UNM in SE is more expensive than most of the heights (though still cheap), but I like having a fair amount that I can walk to.

I am looking into relocating to Albuquerque and wanted to know a couple of things!
Is the Buckle popular & how is the cottonwood mall?
I have been looking at condos & houses in the Rio Rancho area, anywhere else where it's more upscale near the mall or atleast no more than a 10 minute drive?
My husband is a DJ, is there any Dj culture there?
