I used to work for a now defunct "Celtic shop" in Albuquerque. From what I saw the club was a social club for Irish-Americans in the over 60 set.

Theres a Celtic Festival in Rio Rancho every year but I've missed it the three years I've been here.

Hmmm...I've got a long way to go before I am in the over-60 set. Does anyone know who sponsors the Celtic festival, or when and where it is held? Perhaps that would be an opportunity to find people interested in starting a "younger" Irish-American club (like ages 30-60?)

Well I'm not sure.... I did some checking and it looks like last year's event was cancelled and not sure about this year's. But I know the first two years since I moved here they had a Celtic Festival in Rio Rancho and it was a full weekend. It's usually in October and their website just says it will be Oct 20/21 and that 2006 was cancelled. They included highland games and all kinds of Irish and Welsh stuff IIRC.

I know there are some Irish dancing groups and a Scottish country dancing group here in Albuquerque but I've never heard of an Irish American club and I went looking for that. That is something I really miss from the DC area. We had a pretty big group in Houston too -- separate Scottish and Irish societies.

Well, my father was recently hospitalized at Presbyterian, and his nurse from ALB told us that her parents belonged to the Irish American club in ALB and they are originally from NYC. So, I know it exists, but not sure how strong it is.
I will keep an eye out for the Celtic festival this October. Thanks.

Hey! You should start a young Irish-American Club yourself. Just a thought.

Default Celtic Desendents in Albuquerque? Yes!

Did you know that the Celtic people once not only roamed Ireland, but also Wales, Scotland, France, and Spain? Neither did I until I "Googled" this great ethnic heritage site in Albuquerque.

My dear Scotch-Irish grandmother would be ashamed of me!

Also the Celtic Festival in Albuquerque...sorry I missed this year's but I'll be there in 2008! You be there too!

Thought for the day: "Friends are like fiddle strings, and must not be screwed too tightly." -- Irish proverb. :-)
