Aloha! Just wanted to finally post here. I moved to ABQ in May from Honolulu. Originally from San Antonio so there wasn't too much culture shock
At first I really didn't like it here too much but it has grown on me. Obviously I miss Hawaii like crazy and may one day move back, but for now I'm starting to enjoy ABQ.
I didn't have too much time to find a place to live, so I ended up at Las Mañanitas Apts off Coors & Montaño. The west side is nice but I'm thinking I want to move further east closer to the mountains. My lease ends in Feb and was looking at Mesa Del Oso Apts off Eubank & Spain. I like the fact that they don't feel like a typical apt complex, come with a garage, small backyard (for a yorkie) and upgraded with hardwood floors, updated kitchens and super high ceilings.
Is there something similar to that in the east/northeast area?
Thanks for all the great info here on the forum. Hopefully I can find something to contribute.
Mind you, I've not seen them but I plan to rent there short term while I look for a house. What stood out for me there is that they have a dog run and a sauna and are inexpensive. It's in the west area though. If you ever go look at them, please let me know what you think Mahalo!
Bun honestly, it seems like the reviews are better for the apartments on the west side. Generally from my past experience I find that the further you live from the university the better apartment experience you get.

Just to be clear; Eubank & Spain is smack-dab in the "east/northeast area."

My past experience has been the opposite.
That being said, my wife and I stayed in the La Mirage apartments near Eubank and Academy when
we were house shopping. Lotsa people had dogs. It was a decent place while we were living there.
We moved out about 2 1/2 months early on our lease, so while we were paying for the empty
apartment, the maintenance crew had a party there and burned 3x the electricity that we
used on average when we lived there. I stopped in after I got the bill and found that they
trashed the apartment and I had to clean it up again. How nice - the fluckers!
Thanks for the replies. Didn't mean for this post to be all about living places, but good info. I honestly don't want a typical apartment, maybe even look to rent a house or condo.
It's good to see ABQ has a good variety of good business chains like trader joes, sprouts, etc.
One thing I've observed since living here is that ABQ has to have the worst drivers I've ever experienced. It's like common practice here for cars to run red lights, and I've seen 2 different cops care less about it. Amazing.

Yes, many fine citizens of the community applied enough pressure to have the Red Light Cams removed.
Just because you see a police officer not apparently seeing a traffic violation which you see does not mean they could care less. They may be en-route to another location. They might be trying to help someone. Amazing...

I'd disagree with driving comment as well. I think drivers in ABQ are actually quite cautious. I'm used to Chicago driving so for me ABQ driving is a much slower pace.
Driving in general in ABQ is a breeze. However I saw more blatant red-light running there in a year than in a lifetime of east coast driving.
