I just moved to Albuquerque a few days ago. I'm living in a house in south west Rio Rancho. And the floors are frickin' cold in this place. Anyone know why? I can't walk around barefoot because it's too cold, and sometimes even feel like I should be wearing shoes around the house.

Well Bobby777, I think you moved from Tempe to Rio Rancho. The average annual temperature in Tempe is about 70. The average in Rio Rancho is about 55. Assuming your place is on a concrete slab, that slab never really gets very warm. You didn't mention whether the floors are tile, carpet, wood, or something else. Tile and concrete will especially be cold, but in the climate around Albuquerque, most floors will be cold in the winter. Personally, even with shoes on, I have a difficult time keeping my feet warm in the house from about mid-September through May. About the only time I can go barefoot is June-August. Unless you're just a hot-blooded person, you will probably end up wearing socks and shoes a good portion of the year.

Look for a house with radiant heat in the floors.

That's what I have, and the tile floors are warm all the time.

Yep, I did. I actually have some floors that are wood, some are tile, and some are carpet. All of them are on top of concrete though. I would say the tile gets the coldest, then wood, then the carpet.

A few large area rugs can do wonders over tile. Worked great for us...

Depending on the age of the structure and the builder I would venture a guess the the slab was not insulated. Therefore you get the ground temperature and ambient temperature cooling the thermal mass of your slab.. and then cooling you tootsies!
