Hello,
I have been talking to my family about relocating to Albuquerque for an employment offer, and was curious on what areas would be considered good family neibghborhoods to live in. We have 5 children and are trying to find good middle schools and high schools and is there a community college? What about life for teenage kids, is there things to keep them out of trouble? I have read a lot of different comments about Nm and am trying to find out as much as I can before relocating 1200 miles.
Thanks for your help,
The local community college is Central New Mexico Community College, CNM for short. There are a few campuses around ABQ but the main one is near UNM by The Pit. I personally attended there and thought it was excellent. The professors are great and genuinely care about their students and teaching unlike those of universities that care only about tenure and grants. The classroom sizes are good and everything is pretty walkable. If a person has the desire to learn that doesn't want to deal with a large school setting I can think of no better place plus the food in the cafeteria is really good! Hope this helped.
If you'll do a search of the ABQ forum, you'll find several threads about the schools. I was going to link them for you, but there are too many Just type in "schools", you'll find discussions on ABQ in general AND specific areas within the city. If you reveal what price range you are looking in for homes/apts, someone here I am certain can help you narrow it down to certain areas of the city that fit the price. That might help narrow down the school cluster choices too.
Also, what kind of neighborhood are you looking for? Urban, more residential, older, newer, rural, etc....
I'd tell you mine is great but some people would absolutely not do the commute.
Oh, that brings up one more point - where in ABQ will you be working? Just general location. That helps too.
