About 3 mos ago my puppies (about 3 mos at the time) were barking their heads off in the back yard (we live in the bosque in Bernalillo), I went out to scold them for barking at night - bent down to grab one and just glanced up and was about 5 ft from a skunk.
Speakin of skunks...thisll make you think of them in a whole new light... isn't this the most precious little gift?! (The orange is used for identification).

A neat trick I learned about NM snakes..is when it has a sharp pointy tail like that..its not venomous! Just looking for the three things wildlife want: Food, shelter and water.
I tend not to stay around a snake long enough to find out about its tail. I am the leaving the huge trail of dust behind me as I quickly retreat.
Fischergirl- Awwwwwwwwwww, he's an adorable lil' stinker for sure!
Alison, you DO need help. Relocating them buggers ala Achmed in Jeff Dunham "Over here, over here, over here and up there" lol
Told Greg that since my birthday present has a gun rack, I need a rifle. I haven't shot much since I was a wee girl growing up in the hills of Ky......
Almost forgot... saw a 'yote STREAKING across Western Friday. He slipped through the fence and flew across the field. Didn't see (or hear) anything after him, but he was sure moving. So close to the ground and fast he was almost a blur.
Hum, since we moved here earlier this year I've seen lots of coyotes, jackrabbits, innumerable cottontails and maybe a chipmunk and a large squirrel. A few long lizards and a horny toad(!). Also a few road runners, lots of pigeons, mourning doves, scaled quail, ravens, titmice, and finches. The titmice have built a nest in my porch lights and hatched out 3 babies.
