My husband is in his 80's and has degenerative mitral valve regurgitation. We moved here several months ago and now he is having problems. Can anyone recommend a good and humane cardiologist? Which hospital is considered best for heart patients - ABQ Heart Hospital, Prebyterian or UNM? Thanks. Barbara

ok, here is my rec and I do not know if he treats your husbands problem, but let me tell you my experience: While still in the ABQ area I had a few heart problems. we had Pres insurance so of course I used them. I was completely satisfied I will add. I would gather they are as good as ABQ heart hospital but that is an opinion only..Anyway, last treatment I had was March 2008. I had an irregular heart beat, way to fast. After denying this for years I finally had to face facts. I had an ablation and whatever the other part is: my doctor was Dr Sen (I think that is how to spell it) yes, he is or was with the Pres heart group. I am not a lover of doctors, especially heart specialist, this guy made me think I was in love with someone new and I have been married for 50 years. He is just too nice, gentle and kind. I hope this helps...

Nita

ps: I even told my husband I had found someone new: 1/2 my age and 1/2 my size...

Thanks Nita. We also have Pres insurance. We are seeing a cardiologist from the Az heart Institute but she is not a good match for my husband - he really prefers someone male and not so young. But because he was having problems we had to take the first available.

Presbyterian is an excellent choice. My husband was on their staff for 35 years and we saw several doctors there. No to UNMH, because that is not their speciality. Heart hospital is good also but would go to Presby. Best of luck. I think you will be pleased.

Heart Hospital for me. Actually depends on your insurance. Pres won't take BCBS insurance. Doctor: Dr. John Batty.

that's right, it is the insurance company, of course Pres won't take BCBS. I hope the OP found a good doctor by now.

Default NM Heart Hospital

I am a younger fellow, however, had to do some light checking of stuff with the ticker and had very good success at the NM Heart Hospital...great team there.
