I am slightly confused where the seats are coming from. Are the seats coming from the bowl, or the top level?
The top level, the top will have the private rooms and private seats.. its not going to be 15,000..? idk where people are getting that from its going to be about 16,700 or something.
According to the article in the Albuquerque Journal, the capacity of the Pit will be reduced by 1,500 when renovation is complete.
Presently, with standing room places numbering about 900, the capacity is 18,018. That means actual SEATS at the Pit are at about 17,100.
Minus 1,500, that makes capacity about 16,500. I don't count standing room, I think that is a lame way of increasing capacity of any arena. So, minus those 900 "standing room" places, that is about 15,600 SEATS in University Arena, AKA The Pit, once renovation is complete.
I hope Bank of the West doesnt buy out the naming rights of the University Arena (aka The Pit).. that ****ing bank owns this town.. i actually was hearing rumors they would buy out the naming rights..since they have the name just on every billboard or highrise in the city.

My concern is that the school is spending this amount of money when there are campus departments that CANNOT afford to hire new faculty. My department, English, doesn't have enough faculty, and the President has already asked that all department give back 10% of their budgets. So the students are going to suffer from these cutbacks ... since when did athletics become more important than academics? It's just not right.
truckzter, these renovations are being paid for by ticket sales. Basketball money going to help the basketball team doesn't seem too unreasonable.
