I'm trying to put together a list of places I might retire to someday. Albequerque is on my short list.

I really would like a swimming pool but I'm not sure what the policy in Albequerque is for them....if any. I suspect water access is a growing concern in the sand states. How easy/responsible is it to build one in this city? Thanks!

From the City of Albuquerque's website:

SWIMMING POOLS — Swimming pools must be constructed so that the waters edge is no closer than five feet to any building or lot line. Pools must be enclosed with a wall or fence six feet high.

Other cities ( Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, etc. ) might have different restrictions.

Thanks.

I guess what I want to know is...is there a water supply issue in this city? Can anybody build a pool or do they allow only a certain number each year? Is it considered envrionmentally irresponsible to build a pool in ABQ given limited water resource?

You can build a pool, you will need a building permit, and there are ordinances which depend on zoning, easements, size, type of pool etc (above ground? Below ground?)

I have seen private pools in the area of Albuquerque, Rio Rancho etc. I have owned three houses in other states in the past with pools (PA, MD and FL), I found pools can lessen the value of some homes, especially if they are in ground pools. I think maintenance and costs of having a pool might be a bit expensive. for some people in this area, but I see pool supply stores, they might help.

You can contact the city, you can also contact some local real estate people and ask about pools in the area.

"considered envrionmentally irresponsible", I am sure some people might say that, but you build it legally and pay for the upkeep, you can do it...
