I've been avoiding US cheap wines like Mondavi, Vella, Franzia, Rossi, Gallo, Livingston, etc. for a few wks now. I want to have a everyday wine but can't find a low cost, good one.
So went to Totalwine & got this $6.99/1.5L magnum bottle of Italy's 'Banfi Entree Red'. It is a mix (I think, of Sangiovese & Montepulciano D'Abruzzo grapes) & is very good for daily use.
Has anyone tried or comment here? I think I've found (unless someone here upends me for some reason as to why I shouldn't drink it) that I can get a good price (even better if over $100 of it bought @ one time by cases, which gives a 15% discount off of each bottle, thus over 1.05/per bottle for the 6.99 down to 5.94/1.5L magnum bottle.
It is made in Umbria (Central Italy) & though not reputed for great wines as is Tuscany to the east, or the southern Italy wines near Sardinia or Sicily, it is cost-effective & tasty enough for my indiscriminate tastes. Haha.

thanks for the info, we are going to take about 3 or 4 bottles on the cruise ship next Sunday and I have been looking for some suggestions. BTW, I know, we all have our likes and dislikes, I agree with you when it comes to Rossi (yuk) and Villa. Also the others except Mondavi. Mondavi puts out some very good wines and Frazia isn't bad for daily drinking; not good, I agree, but not all that bad..

I have not heard of or tasted this wine, but in general, I have loved ALL of the red wines I have had from Italy. I am sure this wine is far better than the other el cheap wines you mentioned. Totalwine usually has the best price on wines, and gives a discount for case prices, so you can probably do well there. I will have to seek out and give this one a try. I personally like to find inexpensive everyday red table wine, and prefer the Italian ones to the French.

I hope you aren't disappointed. The cruises I've been on, any wine or booze you brought on board, either originally or by purchase at a port along the way, was embargoed until you reached home port. I brought back some phenomenal wines from Chile, pisco from Peru, and rare tequila from Mexico, as did my friends, but we couldn't drink a drop of it until we reached our US port and disembarked. They want you buying your drinks on the cruise from them. That's why they have those rules.

I am not at all worried, this will be my 28th cruise and have never had the wine taken from us: hard liquor yes. There is a corkage fee if you want to consume the wine in the dining room and NCL will charge a corkage fee period if you bring it on. They charge a $15 fee per bottle.. As for hard liqour I totally understand their reasoning; cruise ships are in the business to make money and their profits come from liqour, casino and shore excurstions.

Well gypsydear, I do like it alot.
Yes it isn't a great, highclass million dollar wine, but it is Italy & far better than most France ones. That said, you need try a bottle (or 6 ) as it fits my bill (no pun intended) & is a daily good relaxer as I type away on here missing today's workout though. (Oops, I'm bad drinking vino instead of working out ).
Hehee.
