So I guess it's a thing now, bands having their own beers, I seem to recall Iron Maiden has one, and a few other rock/metal acts.

The latest participant in this being my friends and favorite band, GWAR. They are a costumed metal band from Richmond, VA. Some might remember them as Beavis & Butthead's favorite band back in the 90's. Whatever you may think (or if you've even heard of them) they are really nice guys actually, it's been a great honor to be friends with 'em for about the last 8 years.

Last year I networked together a fan in Port Richey, FL (Rob Chalmers, who is really into the whole craft-brewing thing) who brewed some home recipes in tribute, with the business interests of the band itself, and then Tampa brewery Cigar City got involved...and now there will be GWAR Beer! Ironically I don't even drink...but it seemed too cool an idea, I had to nudge it along and help it grow, and beneficial to a number of dear friends...so I'm glad it's going well. I brought home some of the prototype and had all my beer-loving friends taste it, and it was generally declared to be "really yummy."

There will be a release party, attended by the singer of GWAR, in Ybor City on August 3. Also, there will be some serious quantities of "GWARBQ Brew" at the 4th Annual GWAR-BQ held in Richmond, VA on August 17th. I'm hoping that in the near future, if it is as well received as we all hope, that Cigar City will brew up more and it will gain a bit more distribution. Meanwhile, they created a delightfully silly commercial, viewable here:

Fittingly bizarre video released for Gwar BQ Brew | BeerPulse

And the word is spreading. So if you're near Tampa, FL, or Richmond, VA...come on out and try it!

Ha, I remember them. I don't think they were Beavis and Butt-heads favorite band, but they did like many of their music videos. I didn't know Iron Maiden has their own beer. I've been listening to them since I was 14, and would consider them to be one of my top 5 favorite bands. I'll definitely have to search for their beer

Anything made by GAWR that's meant to be consumed kinda frightens me.

Actually though, i've had a few cigar city beers. A little curious what this tastes like...

LOL it's...beer colored. I think it's an IPA, the original name was "Impaled Ale" but they found out that was taken by another small brewery so they simply made it GWARBQ Brew.

It is safe to drink. And, actually, nowadays even drinking GWAR spew won't hurt ya. That's just colored water they spray at the shows. I should know...going to my 26th GWAR show in August.

And they were in fact Beavis & Butthead's "favorite band"...not only were they featured in the show a few times with the videos, but they were the focus of the SNES video game, the whole point of which was to get B&B to a GWAR concert. Not that it's especially relevant, just a bit of trivia us "bohabs" know.

The band also has another consumable product, GWARBQ Sauce made by Grinders in Kansas City. I have a bottle but haven't tasted it, I'm keeping it sealed as a collectible item. I plan to buy more, for eating, at the GWARBQ.
