I think of it as clear beer, or watered-down beer. After all, it doesn't quite fit into the spirits category, or does it? If I understand correctly, it's brewed, rather than distilled.

True. But now let me ask you this... are non-alcoholic beers (labeled as malt beverages) really beers? They do all have at least some alcohol content, and would seem to be chemically the same as the alcoholic beers often made by the same company. I guess for example if Coors Light is "watered down" Coors Original, then Coors Non-Alcoholic (originally known as Coors Cutter) in turn is "watered down" Coors Light. Right?
