It was my mother who gave me the drink. It was a lesson on how to behave responsibly in society, and on how to drink responsibly.
Believe or not it was my dad. He wanted me to know how to drink and how much I could before I left for college. He even advised me what drinks were acceptable.
No. Why? Just because I did something that was illegal at my age?

I was 16 the first time I had an "illegal at my age" alcoholic beverage. "It was fun at the time and I never did anything stupid and never got caught" but thank goodness it was "cheap crap" because I got so sick that since that time I consider myself as on the cusp of being a teetotaler. No temptation whatsoever to indulge in alcoholic beverages.
Lesson learned a very long time ago...and grateful that I learned from it.
When I was young, before all of the hysteria set in, the drinking age was 18. When I was 14, we traveled to Europe, and my parents let me drink beer with dinner. They were not the least bit puritanical about such things.
At 16, we were invited to have wine or beer with dinner, if my parents were having some. It wasn't off limits or taboo, which removed the mystery from it.
I was only permitted to drink at home, with my parents, or in a restaurant.
The driving age was pretty late in my county and I never thought of drinking and driving.
I think the drinking age should be lowered again to 18. It makes more sense.
I started at the tender age of 2 . Well, don't recall all the specifics but there was a pic of me holding a beer (2 handed approach) to my mouth. The picture was placed in a scrapbook with a caption that I like beer. Family members did drink, some more so than others. Really, I don't recall drinking much beer between then and my teens. Even now, as an adult, I'll have an occasional beer. Maybe it's like what a previous poster said, something about taking the allure out of it.
For me, drinking underage was done in extreme moderation and/or legal within context (glass of wine with the family on Christmas Eve, beer at the local pub on Wisconsin vcations...minors may imbibe under state law if accompanied by parents...all as an older teen...and pub-going as an exchange student in Ireland, where I was legal, even if I wasn't yet legal at home).
I've never been much given to drinking to excess, and was never much of a partier. So, no regrets.
I asked because parents act like it's the end of the world when they find out that their kids drink.
I think you'look find that this is both an overgeneralization, and inconsistent across various cultures (not talking just ethnicity, either, when I say "cultures.").
No. I didn't do it often. I have never been big into alcohol, anyway.
