Thanks again guys for all the great advice and well wishes.

Looks like I made it to Anchorage in one piece, despite Mother Nature's attempts to keep me away.

I had the distinct pleasure of driving through wind storms, Noah's Ark type down pours in So. Cal., pea soup fog, and snow. I didn't hit sunny skies until Seattle (go figure).

Finally boarded a plane in Seattle and made it to Anchorage. After the drive up, the weather here seems downright pleasant.

Lessons learned in my first 48 hours in Alaska:

Wool coats are a joke, went out and bought a new one for me and the kidlet within hours of arriving.

I have to retire most of my shoes. While they may be adorable and I may look great in them, I'm thinking I won't look so great after they have to amputate my feet due to frostbite. So new boots for me and the kidlet came with the coats.

The people I have met thus far have been nothing but amazing. This has to be one of the friendliest places I have ever been.

So, The kidlet and I will be spending Christmas in Anchorage with the Ex and then I head up to Healy for the new year.

So far, this has been a great adventure!

Nikki

You can always bring the fun shoes in a bag to put on when you get inside.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Hmm, cute shoes in a bag? That's an idea, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to work that hard yet.

I must say, warm clothes make all the difference. Everytime I take the hound out for a walk those Sorrel boots look cuter and cuter.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you as well.

I have a good feeling about this move. As I stood outside last night and gazed up at the stars all I could think was "This just feels right". I've lived in quite a few places all over the world and a bunch of parts of the US and this is the first time I have had that feeling.

The kidlet is even a completely different person here. He's bolder and more adventurous than he ever was in suburbia.

SO here is to my first Alaskan Christmas and Winter! I can't wait to find out what kind of stories I have to tell around a campfire after this one.
