Some utilities would provide that if you had there meter numbers, not sure if that still works or not.

I am planning to buy a property at GV in preparation for my retirement in about 5 years. For now, my plan is to use it as a vacation home; stay there for a few days every other 2 or 3 months. But my concern is somebody might vandalize the property during my absence. Is there some kind of property management provider there in GV who would be willing to occasionally look out for my property? I am struggling to come up with the right decision because of this concern. How about the law enforcement? Is there any police station there? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those are good questions, Pogi, and I'm not sure of all the answers. Vandalism and theft are legit concerns in rural areas where the property will be vacant most of the time. I'm not sure of property management, but I believe there are security companies that will watch the place. Of course, by the time they notice anything the damage will most likely already have been done. Your Realtor in the area should be able to provide recommendations. Personally I would combine that with a security system. An alarm on the residence, security cameras (either real or fake), etc. Sorry I'm not much more help.

I appreciate the advice kdog! And you are correct to say that even though there are security companies that can monitor the property, damages have already been done at the time of response. Besides, even if the home invasion is automatically recorded in their sophisticated monitoring system, it would be at least hours before the police can respond (if any at all). Maybe the best approach for me is not to put or leave anything valuable inside the manufactured home. I am sure that professional thieves out there in GV are not arsonists who would burn down an empty property just for fun.

I loved Golden Valley for the short hours that I was there. I grown up in a city all my life and am really looking for a quite rural environment when I retire and GV fits my dream at this time. And if I miss the city’s excitement, GV is not that far from Laughlin casinos to have fun. So, I guess I will just take my chances; after all, one of the excitements of being alive is the opportunity to take chances!

And further looking at the negative side, the worst that could happen is for the thieves to burn it down or haul my manufactured home leaving me an empty one-acre land when I visit. And the positive side? My land will always be there serving a vital purpose - connecting the earth!! J

Actually the Sheriffs probably respond a lot faster than you think, Pogi. There have been quite a few arrests reported in the paper for thefts in rural areas, including crime-in-progress, usually spotted and reported by a neighboring property owner. I'm not sure whether there's a Sheriff's office in GV or whether they're out of Kingman, but they're always around. From what I can see, crime like this is dealt with rather harshly in the county. Criminals don't get a slap on the wrist here; they usually go straight to jail.

Thank you again kdog for your comments and nice to hear that Sheriffs out there take law violators seriously! But regardless of the theft situations there at Golden Valley, I have already made up my mind to make that place a future part of my life; surrounded by mountain view and completely a rural environment! I was a U.S. Army soldier during my young life and I am sure that going there is far more safer that going to a battlefield! So here I am GV, a new breed of local citizen is coming!! Oh! I will probably hang around there for fun at Kingman and on its opposite direction – Laughlin casinos!! YES!!

Ha! You'll be in good company in GV, Pogi. There are lots of vets in town. There's a VFW as well as a chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America. The Veteran's Day parade is a big event here.

Here it is a few years later. Tell us, how did things work out.

I'm next, btw. Just have to clear up a bankruptcy, wait 6 months then qualified for my VA $90K home. I can find a lot of them now in 2013 just waiting for me at this low interest rate. Any suggestions?

Right now, I seem to want to gravitate to the West end of the valley either 4 miles n or s of 68.

Any GV lifers out there willing to welcome us and tell us a bit about your town? I'm quiet, respectful, retired, easy-going [mod cut]. LOL. Make a great neighbor.

Here it is late April 2013. I'm stuck in this rainy [mod cut] eastside Seattle. How did GV work out for ya?

Also Vietnam era vet, retired, disabled from a lifetime of telephone line construction and ready to GIT ER DONE in GV.

Solar suppliers, look out ... I'm letting the gubm'nt train me in all things solar as part of my VETS package. I'll use that to help others DIY and get off the grid. Woot.
