Be careful out there if you are camping.
Right now I am measuring only 9% humidity with a 12° dew point and the winds are high.
Fires can spread very quickly with the winds we are having.

Yup... watched the giant billowing smoke from the Murphy fire driving home from work today. That makes it the 3rd major fire in this area this year. This dry spell is nasty.

I heard on this evenings news that we have 6 fires going now and that Alpine is facing evacuation.
My wife also said that the Apache Sitgreaves forest is closed.

The Wallow Fire in eastern Arizona is burning out of control and threatening the small towns of Alpine & Nutrioso. What a shame! That area contains some of the most beautiful forests in the entire state. I heard that this fire has the potential to be as destructive as the Rodeo/Chedeski Fire if the windy, dry weather persists ... and it likely will being that June is usually a very dry month in Arizona.

They're saying that this fire was most likely human caused. I never hear much about trying to find the culprits and bring them to justice. Even the woman who was responsible for starting a portion of the Rodeo/Chedeski Fire in 2002 wasn't prosecuted. These slimebags need to be caught and appropriately punished ... regardless if the fires were intentionally set or not.

There has been no lightening yet, and they are saying that ALL of these fires are human caused. And yet I still see people throwing cigarette butts out their windows! Wise up and use your brains people!

And campers up north and most likely illegals and the warming fires overnight in the South end of the state are the most likely cause.

We had a small fire up on the Rim about a month ago that was started by a gunshot--no kidding. It is that dry out there!

I have heard that ricochets off rocks and such can cause sparks but I don't know if that's true or not.
