Between Bullhead and Havasu, which city is better for a married couple with one small child and more to come? My wife and I are both teachers, so we would be looking for teaching jobs in either city if we decided to make the jump.

What is your opinion of either city based on my criteria? Thank you. God bless.

I would say Havasu if you can afford it. Traffic is not quite as bad, but that is seasonal when the snowbirds flock to town.
Like posted both are hot and Humid.
Runs to Vegas would be shorter in Bullhead for supplies plus you can donate your cash to the Casinos across the river.
Drive on down and check both places and toss a coin.

Ditto to what Rambrush said. I would add that since you're teachers, you might want to pull the AIMS scores for the grades you teach in both towns for comparison.

I'm sure you've either read up on or have experience with the summertime temps in both cities - blazing - has to be experienced over the course of weeks. Staying for a day or two in the summer doesn't give you the full effect of 110+ temps for weeks/months at a time. Havasu and Bullhead really have different "personalities." Biased personal opinion - Havasu is a nicer city but Bullhead is closer to/better for shopping and attractions and is an hour and a half drive to Vegas (closest commercial airport of significance). Havasu is 2.5 to Vegas and 3.5 to Phoenix.

Up and down with teaching jobs in Havasu. Like many public schools in AZ, Lake Havasu public schools have had budget cuts combined with less students. However a new Charter school, Havasu Preparatory Acadamy, has opened - The Leona Group, L.L.C..

I just moved from Bullhead to Casa Grande because I found Bullhead to be too windy. The temps in the winter are reasonable, but the windchill makes outside activities unbearable. And you get a hot wind in the summer. I don't know if Havasu is that windy, but I know it is a more upscale and affluent area. Bullhead is blue collar.

Oh, I've read up on the temps. The summer temps look extremely hot, but the rest of the year looks good. I'm grew up in Michigan, so I've already had my helping of cold and never wish to see snow again. That said, my dad has a nice little beach house on lake Huron with a good beach that we would escape to during the hottest part of the Arizona summer. I guess you could call us baby chick snowbirds.

The stats say Havasu has less wind. I think sounds right because it is farther away from mountains.

I live in Havasu now. Been here 3 years. Two kids in high school now. We don't hear good things about Bullhead at all violence and drugs and gangs. My kids say there is drugs in Havasu High School as well. Don't seem to be lots of violence and gangs. My youngest says all the really bad kids end up going to Telesis Prep school. There are several elementary's check them out some are better than others. We have one middle school now my youngest in high school now but was in Thunderbolt for the last 2 years many issues there lots of fights and other issues. Its a little windy not bad here. The first year we were here it was 125 not heat index either 125 we always say we are a foot into Hell. lol This summer wasn't near as bad the winter hasn't been bad this year either. More expensive here not lots to do unless you make good money. If your a drinker or boater you will love it lots of bars and boats. I'm from Texas and miss grass and trees here. We have seen many teachers from Middle school and High school come and go. You only go to the hospital here if its something miner. Go to Parker or Kingman or better Vegas. People keep to themselves here. Lots of older retired people here. The city council is corrupt here. We do have Walmart, McD, Burger King we just got a Dollar Tree, 99 cent store, and a few other stores we have Bashas, Smiths, Food City, Safeway, Albertsons groceries are pretty high. Lots of people go to Bullhead/Laughlin to Costco's. [mod cut-- off topic] We are Homesick and ready to get back Texas.

I lived in both Havasu and Bullhead and I can tell you Bullhead is NOT a great place for a family. Between the trashy people, Meth heads and nats, it is not ideal. Also the wind blows continuously there!!!! The place is horrible. The river and lake is nice however, when it is not blowing. Just look at the name "Bullhead" and that tells you all you need to know.

Havasu is very nice. It can be windy but about 80% less than Bullhead. The lake is beautiful and the town has some great restaurants and parks.
