My wife and I recently retired to Sierra Vista. A major consideration was being close to the border to buy cheap meds. We love Bisbee for the atmosphere and so far have crossed the border for meds at Naco south of Bisbee and Agua Prieta across from Douglas. We weren't too excited by the offerings in those border towns and decided to try Nogales. First it's a beautiful drive through Sonoita and Patagonia to Nogales, AZ. We liked the setting and atmosphere of the American side. There's all day parking available to allow easy walking into Mexico. Very close to the border is a small row of well stocked pharmacies. We didn't venture further but have read there are many stores and some nice restaurants in close walking distance. Back on the American side we stopped at the Food City supermarket and found very fresh and abundant produce for less than half of what Walmart charges. Cheapest prices I recall seeing in many years. And everyone we dealt with were friendly and polite. We're renting in Sierra Vista and are considering looking into rentals around Nogales when our lease is up. Nogales, AZ is at 3800' elevation which is more moderate than Tucson heat wise with mild winters and a bit more rain annually. And Tucson is less than an hour by interstate.
