If you remember, I previously did a thread asking when do you think the next area code split will occur in Arizona. However, I decided to do a poll to determine which area code do you think will be the next to be split.

I would probably say 520 might be the most likely to be split next, with the greater Tucson area keeping 520 and the rest of the current 520 area code outside the Tucson area switching to a new area code.

I would think thatt as big as the 928 one is, it should be the next.

And here we go again. In the 19 years I've lived here I've gone from 602 to 520 to 928. I don't want another area code.

I've only had to change once, but put me in the don't know, don't care category.

IF Arizona ever got another area code split, it would probably involve area code 520. Tucson would most likely keep 520, and the new area code would be in the rest of the existing area code..

Personally, I don't see another area code necessary for a while, thanks to the way changes have been made since the 1990s. Thanks to cell phones, I don't think area code overlays are as big a deal as they used to be. I wouldn't be surprised to see an overlay as opposed to a split if a new area code was in the Phoenix area. You could realistically be in the Phoenix area now and use any of the 5 current area codes.

Both 480 and 602 are pretty full from what I understand, so it would likely be one of those (or both) which would split or add an overlay. I think an overlay might be the best option at this point since the area code boundaries are really meaningless anymore with people able to carry their cell phone & land line numbers pretty much anywhere they move.

I remember the days when the Corporation Commission stalled around on assigning new area codes when they were desperately needed. They were even reluctant to split 602 when it was becoming maxed out back in the '90s. Our wonderful government at work!

You know what really makes me mad? MY cell phone has a 520 area code, while my home phone is a 480 number.. Well, precious Cox cable charged me an extra 60 dollars in long distance for the kids calling me from the home phone to my 520 cell phone.. So, I pay 14 cents a minute for calling a 520 area code..

Well, get rid of Cox, or change one of your numbers.

Back to topic, please. This is not a thread for all area code issues.

I was thinking because Pinal County is growing so much and is pretty much a part of the Phoenix area, the whole county should break off from 520, become its own new area code, which is also an overlay to 602/480/623, and much like Dallas and Houston, the borders between them all should be erased as technically there's no real defined borders anyways.

Furthermore, after my proposed split, everything else should be overlays. I couldn't see how to split up 928 if it ever gets to that point, and besides, those people already went through two changes, do they really need a third?
