Advertisements

It's especially blatant on television, but I'm even seeing meaningless no-content signs on the street, like "Vote No - Stop wasting taxpayer money." And TV is worse. I thought negative ads were just "Don't vote for John Smith, who wants to reduce our military budget, and has voted such-and-such a way cutting funding. Instead vote for Joe Jones, who voted for the last three military bills!" But instead, there are just ads that are nothing but negative against a candidate, without mentioning the candidate they want to promote, and often not even mentioning the office they're running for! And the attacks are so vague that you just know that they're probably untrue, or totally biased. (I enjoy the one saying "She voted for the worst of Obama's plans," naming only two, which makes me want to ask, so, did she vote for all the good ones, too? And then there's the one that frames the vote as an act of revenge...

Just awful.

It's been the norm since the Democrats ran b.s. TV spots against Goldwater in '64. To be fair the ads of today are nothing compared to the slanderous campaigning from the days of yore.

I am sick and tired of all the ads. They are only lies and confuse people. Thank goodness it's almost over. If it would be up to me there would be no ads on tv only debates. If you think what you could do with all the money spend on those negative ads it's even more sickening.

What's worse, Voebe . . .

All that "trash" on TV about every five to ten minutes or all that "trash" on every street corner disguised as Political Ads and protected by a gaggle of First Person Singular politicians?

If you or I were to "litter" up the neighborhood with so much trash we would be arrested.

Agreed. Nothing going on today in AZ or anywhere else that wasn't just as bad hundreds of years ago. Politics has always been a dirty street fight. The insults hurled by our founding fathers once our nation was founded were hair curling, as were the insults exchanged by Lincoln and Douglas. Nothing new at all.

It seems that all these politicians are doing nothing but talking bad about their opponent. It would be nice to see a political add where the politician talks about what they will do for the country and the people they represent. Talk about the issues affecting the country and not how screwed up their opponent is.

We aren't so bad here in AZ. I was in Pahrump, NV recently and saw the best negative campaign ever! There's apparently some guy named Rick who's running for sheriff.

There are giant billboard ads around the town saying, "Vote for Anybody but Rick!"

He must really know how to make friends. LOL

I agree with you but unfortunately the majority of our population is not intelligent enough to understand this point. Sorry, that is not a p.c. thing to say but it's the truth. The reason these ads are so slanderous is because they work. This is a TMZ society and quick emotional tags work better than salient discussions or points regarding policy. The majority of people are morons and they are too dumb to ask the question "Yeah, but what is your actual policy?" Instead, all it takes is for a Republican to say "He supported Obama" and in their minds, it discredits everything about him and they don't bother to even examine what his policy is. The Democrats do the same. "He is anti-education or he doesn't want what is best for our kids" And in their minds, they won't bother to examine Ducey's plan, which I feel has some merits as well. The truth is both candidates have some great strategies. It should be about their platform and what they plan to do. Unfortunately, there are too many dumb people in this country who play the partisanship game which is comparable to a person blindly following their favorite sports team. If you are a Republican, you are not allowed to support a Democrat and vice versa. It's completely illogical. It should be about the issues and not what party they are from. It's a very trivial sophmoric mentality.

Maybe that was case during that time but it has progressively gotten worse in the last 20 years in my opinion particularly as things have become more partisan and Republicans are not allowed to talk to Democrats and vice versa. It has become very much like My Fraternity vs Your Fraternity and childish. There was an article in the paper the other day about how certain Republicans were being disciplined by their own party because these members supported Fred Duval. So they are not allowed to disagree with their own party and express a different view? Ridiculous

Party politics has always been a factor in elections in this country. Modern day Arizona is no worse than it was in the early days of our nation. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
