I am planning to remodel my kitchen and thinking of the options I'd like. One consideration is replacing the electric cooktop with gas. The gas meter is on one side of the house, the furnace and hot water heater (the only appliances using gas) are on the other. The kitchen is in between.

Understanding that this is a general question, how are the gas lines routed through houses here in AZ? Back east, we had a basement and the lines were run in the basement ceiling. I'm thinking that the line is running through the attic. Yes, I know that I'll have to validate this with the contractor we choose.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure they just run through the walls. I know they are not in my attic.

For slab on grade, they are underground and come up only where needed. For remodel, your best bet would be to go through ceiling if none are near.

Seems to depend on the builder. Our house (built 2013) has the gas pipe running up the wall and then through the attic then down the wall to behind the cooktop.

Thanks for the replies. I've since been told by people in my development who've tried to do what I want to do that they're under the slab. Oh well...don't want to spend the money needed to get them into my kitchen. Thanks again!

How old is your home?
Most home are thru the trusses in the attic. Perhaps you can "T" where it comes into the house and go up thru the ceiling

This.

Even if the gas comes thru the slab there has to be a pipe coming out somewhere. Is your water heater gas? If not what uses gas in your house? There will be a pipe there. Trying to redirect the pipe thru the slab makes no sense.

Hi - my house was built in 2003. The furnace and hot water heater are both gas and on the opposite side of the house from the gas meter. Kitchen is in the middle. Thanks for the replies.

I would verify that the gas lines actually do go underground....my guess that in 2003 most homes built by production builders here in Phx. are above in the trusses. Either way, where the meter is on the exterior wall, you are able to "T" off there and go above to run the line ,and then drop down into the wall where you need it.
