Why do you think I suggested the countertop? I know they have levers on the stove. But the cabinets were installed when the house was built and should have been level to start with. Like the floors should be level and can be used as well. I agree and have seen a lot of cabinets and tops that were not installed level.
I also sugested a structural engineer, A home inspectore is not a PE usually and will defer those things to a pro in that field. Home inspectors should not be working above there scope of expertise.

Thanks for your help rambrush. I am looking into home inspectors, and you're right about their scope of expertise. From what I see, they just have to refer to an engineer if anything looks suspicious. I've even noticed that some inspector companies have a structural engineer on staff. It's all starting to make sense, and isn't as frightening with all this information now. Thanks again.

Base cabinets are generally not installed level to the floor as far as I know.....The way I've always seen it done is to shoot a level line around the wall, and then level the cabinets to that line by shimming them at the floor, NOT installing them level to the floor. So in other words, the counter may very well be at a true level while the floor is not. I guess if the whole house shifted, the counters would be not level too, but not if they were installed a number of years after the house was built (house was built in the mid 70's). First thing I'd replace before I sold would be the kitchen cabinets and counters.
