Does anyone know if you can leave the country if you have a warrant? I am going to Mexico for Thanksgiving, and I am not sure if my warrant will be paid off or not by then.

Instead of spending the money for travel, why not pay your debt? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

That would be un-American. Debt is a national heritage and cultural privilage of just being an American.

I am not spending any money on traveling, going with family who rented out a home on the beach.

Bottom line, to re-enter the US after visiting Mexico you need a passport. That passport has a little bar scanner thingy on it. It gets scanned, and goes up against a large database. The chances of it hitting on your warrant are fairly high. You might enjoy the vacation, but end up in a US jail on the way back into the country.

Just pay off the debt. Borrow it from family if you need to, or stay home and work to make money to pay it off. Novel concept, eh?

I guess I wasn't clear enough when I said "I am not sure if my warrant will be paid off or not by then.".

I plan on paying it off, but if I can't in time I just needed to know.

My opinion, Sensimilla . . . NOT WORTH THE RISK.

The other question is--will Mexico even let the OP in with an active warrant/conviction?

Not worth the risk.

When they scan your passport - it will probably show and outstanding warrant and into the pokey you go.
