Has anyone recently renewed their car registration with a specialty plate and noticed an increase for the plate fee? Last year I paid $25, and my new renewal card shows $50 per year. I don't have a personalized plate, just the Centennial plate.

Strange, MsVulcan . . .

Possibly the $50 charge is for a Two Year Renewal?

About six months ago I renewed my License Plates and the Personalized Plate Fee with Standard Arizona Plate was $125 for 5 years . . . $25 per year.

Thanks! I think they have something wrong, maybe think it's personalized. It is definitely listed as $50 for one year and $100 for two. I will be calling them Monday.

It's $25/yr for a specialty plate (+ 4.89 shipping) or $50/year specialty personalized (+ 4.89 shipping). Just ordered mine. Just go online and order it. You can select what you want.

I just renewed the tags on my car yesterday, in which I have the “freedom” specialty plate, cost me an additional $25. I heard on KTAR talks about upping the prices of renewing tags etc to help generate more revenue for the state. Guess we’ll see where that goes. I’m already paying close to $200 for a 6 year old car that isn’t worth a whole lot.

That's right - the Legislature pulled a bait-&-switch with a new fee that's not going to do what it's supposed to do.

"HB 2166 creates a new vehicle-registration fee that will be levied on every motorist who registers in Arizona.

The fee will cost an estimated $18 to $24 per year, with the amount set by director of the Arizona Department of Transportation. Motorists will pay the fee starting Jan. 1, 2019.

Ostensibly, the fee will pay for the state's highway-patrol operations. But in reality, the fee will partly fund teacher-pay raises approved by Ducey and lawmakers. It also will restore funding for road projects."

Well it cost me a trip to the MVD, but we got the mystery solved and corrected. The license plate on my registration was listed as a Boy Scouts of America plate, and since the number didn't fit the format of the Boy Scout plate it was noted as personalized.

I took a picture of my plate, went in and had it corrected and renewed for 2 years in less than 15 minutes.

Sounds like Good News to me, MsVulcan . . .

In all the years I have lived in Arizona plus comparing to my experiences at many other states, the Arizona MVD is definitely a WINNER.

Wow...that will be a collector's item for sure...or are they going to make you turn it in for a simply "Scouts of America" plate?
