Owner bought car from dealer in December last year. (2005 model)

Will I need emissions certificate to get the title in my name? What’s the cutoff for when it’s needed and when it’s not for Phoenix?

My 2005 had to have it done again this year. It is done ever other year beginning with year 7 or 9 I think it was.

Yes I know it’s every other year, but if it was done in December and it’s now October will it be a requirement to register? I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find an answer

Yes nothing specific there - just says “may need emissions test”. Well how do you find out???
My question is — If car is registered within 12-mo of original “2-year” emissions test do I need to get it emissions tested AGAIN for one year tags or does every used car purchased regardless need a brand new emissions test every time

One point is for certain, Ps2Cho . . .

I would call the MVD and get the complete answer from a professional.

Otherwise, when you take your paperwork in to receive a new title and registration in your name, you will definitely find out if an Emissions Test is required.

Good Luck.

It also depends on where you live.
Many areas of AZ don't require smog checks.

Why not just do it anyway? It is what...$20? For an OBD2 equipped car they just plug it in and run a scan...then you don't have to worry about missing paperwork.

I might ad that Safford areas, Sierra Vista areas and the Prescott areas do not require emissions testing.
It may come someday but we have been exempt for years now.
