Moderator cut: rude . you are a prisoner in your own home between May and October when the extremely oppresive heat keeps you indoors and you cant do NOTHING outside at all. you call that 'good' weather? Phoenix is not in close proximity to vacation areas in CA or Vegas, they are at least a six-hour drive. Phily is in close proximity to New York and Washington DC, not Phoenix to LA or San Diego or Vegas
I have lived in both Florida and Arizona and was comparing those 2 states only, I have lived through 15 Florida summers and my opinion is that the summers in Arizona are better because of the low humidity factor.
You cannot do weeked 6 hour trips from S Florida because it is much to far to travel in a weekend to get out of the state,in is AZ you can do weekend trips to Vegas, N AZ , CA and mexico if you want a change of scenery, from S Florida you cannot. I suggest you do a mapquest search to see how long it will take to drive from S Florida to Georgia or North carolina which are the 2 closet states from S Florida. It will take you almost 12 hours to get to NC and 9 hours to get to Georgia which makes a day trip almost impossible.
Over 1/2 the population from S Florida are from New York where in Arizona they are from the Midwest and my 15 years of S Florida experience tell me New York City people do not have the same mentality or values as people from the midwest.
I am sorry you you do not like Arizona but I have lived in many States and love Arizona the best out of all of them.

[quote] I lived and near Jupiter for 15 years and have lived in Arizona for 3 years now. All factors considered Arizona is the hands down winner.
1. better weather(7 months are better than Florida and the summer is more bearable than Florida)
2.closer proximity to weekend vacation areas(california, vegas, mexico and N arizona)
3 less bugs
4 friendlier people( more people with core family values live in Az)
5 better housing available in AZ (newer and cheaper)
6 cheaper food costs due to having over a dozen different food stores in AZ as opposed to 1 major monopoly in Florida (Publix)
7 This is the reason I moved (no natural disasters in Arizona where in Florida you never no when life or property will be ruined by a hurricane or a tornado)

You have noticed that as well I see? I also lived in Florida (Palm Beach County) summer of 1982 and when I returned to SoCal.............I almost knelt down and kissed the ground at LAX----------I was so damn glad to be back here in the west.

Phily is in close proximity to New York and Washington DC, not Phoenix to LA or San Diego or Vegas. I dont find peple in Arizona to be friendlier than anywhere else. People are the same no matter where you go. Your opinions about Arizona are preconcieved opinions and steroeype and hype, instead of fact. Have you ever been to Arizona???? My attitude was the same as yours, but since I've lived here it has changed and cant wait to get outta here.
I bike in 110 weather just as easily as if it were 50, so your claim of imprisonment is YOUR attitude, one that obviously is biased against AZ. That's fine, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but you state things as if they are facts when they are your opinions. I find people here are definitely friendlier than other areas, perhaps because I'm from the Midwest and many people from the Midwest have relocated here (same values perhaps?). I understand that the driving distances to vacation spots might be greater than on the East Coast due to much lower density here, but please realize that there are plenty of places in between where the silence and splendor can be just as rewarding. I don't have kids in the schools but if I did, I would make up any perceived deficiency (wherever I lived mind you) because I'd be a parent--a responsibility that comes with the job.

Sorry you don't like it here, feel free to leave.

I've been to Jupiter FL and I don't think it offers anything matching Phoenix in opportunity due to its meager size. I agree with everything autism360 wrote because, for me, it's all true.

I've got news for you, your a prisoner in your house in FL as well. We have been here two years, and active and on the slim side, nobody goes outside a good part of the year.

You don't even see kids outside playing most of the year.

Have spent more time indoors in FL than anywhere else we have lived(this is our 4th state).

No one even cuts their own lawn(lawncutters are big business).

I have lived in dry heat and it will take over hot and sticky. Where you start sweating the minute you walk outside.

I would say AZ over FL anytime.

Attitude is everything. Certain posters here are determined to be miserable, and post variations on the same theme every time someone posts about thinking about moving here. Yes, you have to take all the posts here with a grain of salt, (although the opinions of people who have actually lived both places would, to me, merit more consideration) but I will say that anyone who is truly trapped inside their home as a "prisoner" from May to October is determined to be miserable, and is not trying very hard to make the best of it.

To the OP-- I hope you are happy with whatever decision you make!

Default lived in Louisiana

Since several people have mentioned Louisiana I thought I'd reply. I was born in N.O. and lived there for 34 years. It was the happiest day of my life when I left! Louisiana is great if you love hot, muggy, unbearably miserable weather.....occasional hurricanes, huges cockroaches and lots of crime. Haven't lived there in quite a few years and will NEVER go back.

AZ and FL. Both are states with diversity. FL is flat. I like mountains. FL humidity is uncomfortable (but better for your skin). You better be careful with the sun exposure in both places, especially if you're fairer/family hx of skin cancer. Miami or Phoenix, neither are my favorites by any means. Coral Gables, FL used to be much quieter and nicer IMO (lived there). Stewart, FL, Lake Worth, FL - I lived there. Sedona, AZ used to be much quieter and nicer IMO (lived there). AZ has nothing like the glorious FL Keys and white sandy beaches. FL has nothing like the beautiful red rocks, high desert, and mountain vistas. I would be hard-pressed to make a strong case why one of these states is better than the other. Speaking Spanish is especially beneficial in many areas of both FL & AZ, and in Miami, Spanish language competency is practically a requirement to coexist comfortably with your neighbors - in Phoenix less so. I love seafood, so FL wins hands-down in food offerings, but Vegas & Santa Fe are but a weekend getaway for all the seafood you could possibly want. Wish I could get fresh FL Stone Crabs in AZ, but moving some place new is all about compromise. I love the diversity our great country offers us. We Americans are very fortunate to have a country as large as ours with a stable democracy and the freedom of movement. Much of the world is not so lucky.

Again I am happy to post that I love it here in Arizona, watching the news and seeing oil spills, potential hurricanes and realizing out of all the states Arizona is probably one of the safest places on the planet.
I saw a guy in the grocery store yesterday with a Glock clipped to his waist and remembered he does'nt even need a permit here, our founding fathers would smile at that on this 4th of JUly.
